Old figures, old rules, old scenery, old articles, old reviews, and old wargamers. Not old school. Just old.

Simply wonderful - portable gladiators
This is based on an idea in an article in Military Modelling from 1973, put into practice by Ian Hayward when he was 12. Which makes it just about bang on for Vintage Wargaming.
A nod to Harry over at Parum Pugna for unearthing this gem. I've reposted here as some of you may not be visitors at Harry's blog - if not, I do recommend it, again. And just call me Tango 002.
You can go direct to Ian Hayward's page for this project by following this link.

That is a great idea! Is it a cake tin?
Thanks for the plug, Clive. I feel compelled to point out by forces beyond my control that the figures in Ian's photos are Minifig S range not Greenwood and Ball. However, unlike Minifigs S, the latter are still available - through Rob at Garrison. Sadly neither range included the gladiator with lasso...
Biscuit I think, Phil
Off topic but you were looking for a card cut out model for a Bren Carrier. I don't think that there was one in MIlitary Modelling so try this.

I'm pretty sure it was Military Modelling, I might even have it somewhere. The only alternative I would have seen at the time might be Airfix Magazine, but it seems unlikely that they would have been promoting a cheaper alternative to their own kit
