Wargame Books - Charlie Wesencraft's Practical Wargaming

Recently published in a new edition by John Curry, one of the less well known but very influential early wargaming books was Charlie Wesencraft's Practical Wargaming. Here is the original flier for the book, plus a characteristic review by Don Featherstone from Wargamer's Newsletter from December 1974.

I always thought Wesencraft's book was the business - it made sense of all the things that Featherstone's books (especially the rules) left holes in, which presumably were to be settled by argument/bullying. There is just a faint whiff of vitriol in Don's review, which speaks volumes, but I do believe that CW's book gave you a game which played nicely and - while not pretending to be 'realistic' - had more of a foundation in justifiable logic than any of Don's.

I sold my 1st edition copy, and wish I still had it, to be honest.

Thanks for this item - enjoyed very much
