I've been sent this picture of two Napoleonic figures and I was wondering if anyone could help identify the manufacturers. The suspicion is that the Royal Horse Guards figure could be very early Greenwood and Ball - can anyone confirm this? or provide an alternative identification? Also struggling on the rocketeer. No visible markings on either figure.
Doesn't look like any of my early Greenwood and Ball figures.

I have a couple of similar mounted figures and another that looks like a hussar, Mine have separate metal bases, one of which has detached and I think the others are soldered on. I'm afraid that I too have no idea of who made them. Cheers. Clive

ReplyDeleteThe Horse Guards figure is soldered to a separate base, as you say, and the reins are obviously wire, also soldered on. The paintwork is a vigorous gloss job with toy soldier-style facial blobs - looks like factory painting. I have 4 of these, all very slightly different casting and position. Entirely from the description of early Greenwood figures (pre G&B?) in VINTAGE20MIL (sand casting, individual animation, soldered bits, factory painting) I thought it might fit. No idea otherwise - never seen anything else like it.

No other reason to draw that conclusion!!
